Miami-Dade Parks’ BIKE305 leads annual Ride of Silence
On May 15th, Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department's BIKE305 will hold its annual Ride of Silence. Held each year in May, National Bike Month, the ride engages cyclists to ride in support and solidarity with others around the world in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways.
Miami-Dade County and the Village of Key Biscayne police will escort cyclists on the eight-mile double-lap on Crandon Boulevard for a slow bike ride in complete silence. A four-mile one-lap option will be available for those choosing a shorter distance.
Cyclists of all levels and abilities are encouraged to come and hear about recent and future safety improvements throughout Miami-Dade County, under Miami-Dade County's Vision Zero, a countywide safety initiative with a goal to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries by 2040.
Miami-Dade Parks is working to improve the off-road cycling network with trail projects like The Underline, the Ludlam Trail, the Biscayne-Everglades Greenway, among others. This effort aims to provide safe passage for cyclists traveling to parks, schools, beaches, business centers and public transportation hubs.
The BIKE305 Ride of Silence is supported by the Everglades Bicycle Club.
