Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management offers hurricane season preparedness tips
This hurricane season, the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) offers tips to residents on how to prepare their lawn ahead of any possible storm.
- DSWM customers can use one of the 13 Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Centers (TRCs) throughout Miami-Dade County as often as needed. Tree trimmings, old lawn furniture, small amounts of construction debris (up to three cubic yards, per customer, per day), old appliances, and up to four automobile tires, can be dropped off at the TRCs. Visit the TRC webpage for locations, hours, and accepted items.
- Now is the ideal time to prune trees and bushes, and remove tree limbs, before a storm threatens Miami-Dade County.
- Schedule a bulky waste pickup appointment for lawn clippings and tree trimmings. DSWM customers are entitled to two bulky waste pickups a year of up to 25 cubic yards each. This is a good time to utilize one of the available pickups. Learn more here.
- Check the exterior of homes and properties for possible mosquito breeding sites. Old appliances, hollowed-out tree trunks, buckets, cans, barrels, and old tires, can hold water and breed mosquitoes, and must be discarded if possible. Visit miamidade.gov/mosquito for more information.
- As part of the Learn with DSWM webinar series, the department will be sharing other helpful tips to prepare for hurricane season. Click here to watch previous episodes on Facebook.
