Miami-Dade County celebrates Palmetto Homes First Solar/Green Home in Opa-Locka
On Thursday, August 1st, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III, and Opa-Locka Mayor John Taylor, along with their city’s commissioners, will celebrate the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Palmetto Homes First Solar/Green Home.
Palmetto Homes of Miami will construct two affordable single-family homes and 12 townhomes in the Opa-Locka area. These homes will feature solar panels on the roof, which will help homeowners save on energy costs. The energy upgrades include:
- Energy Star appliances for the kitchen
- Energy Star lights throughout the home
- Energy Star ceiling fans for the bedrooms
- White special shingles that keep the heat away from the roof
- Impact windows
- Interior walls with a light color a light color reflectance of at least 50%
- Outdoor light fixtures equipped with compact fluorescent flood bulbs with motion detectors
Palmetto Homes is conveniently located just a quarter of a mile from a mass transit station, making public transit easily accessible.
Miami-Dade County awarded Palmetto Homes of Miami $1,250,000 from Surtax funding.
