Enforcement efforts yield arrests, citations, and vehicle impoundments in "intersection takeover" operation.
On August 17th, 2024, Detectives from the Miami Dade Police Department's Homeland Security Bureau (HSB) along with the City of Miami Police Department conducted an enforcement operation focused on addressing intersection takeovers in Miami-Dade County.
The enforcement operation yielded the following enforcement statistics:
-2 arrests (racing statute, reckless driving, unlawful assembly, fleeing, resisting)
-13 Citations
-3 vehicles impounded
At one of the "intersection takeover" locations, HSB detectives positively identified a white Chevrolet Camaro involved in the illegal activity, with its license plate covered. A traffic stop was attempted once the Camaro stopped in traffic but the vehicle began to flee from the officers. MDPD Aviation Units followed the Camaro overhead and provided a real time location of the vehicle while marked units followed from a distance. While continuing to flee, the driver of the Camaro lost control of the vehicle and collided with a fence. A short time after the collision, officers arrived and took the driver into custody without further incident.
The Miami Dade Police Department and its law enforcement partners continue to work collaboratively to address illegal and hazardous "Street Takeover" activities.
Anyone with information related to these activities is encouraged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers (305-471-TIPS) where they can remain anonymous.
