Miami-Dade Department of Solid Waste Management sustains AA- rating from Fitch Ratings
The Miami-Dade Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) is proud to announce that Fitch Ratings has affirmed the ‘AA-’ rating for Miami-Dade County’s $25 million solid waste system revenue refunding bonds, series 2015, with a stable outlook. Fitch—a nationally recognized statistical rating organization—has assigned a Standalone Credit Profile (SCP) of ‘aa-’ to DSWM, indicating a strong credit profile.
Fitch's analysis highlights DSWM’s “strong” revenue defensibility, “midrange” operating risk, and “stronger” financial profile. The affirmation of the AA- bond rating reflects the department's solid debt service coverage and robust cash reserves, which have bolstered capital and maintenance initiatives.
“I’m thrilled to see our bond ratings affirmed by Fitch,” stated Aneisha Daniel, PhD, Director of the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management. “This achievement is a testament to our dedicated Financial Services Team who continually strive for excellence, as well as the strong leadership from our Mayor and the Board of County Commissioners.”
The AA- rating also positions the department favorably for future financing opportunities, allowing it to invest in critical infrastructure improvements and innovative technologies that further enhance service delivery and sustainability initiatives.
The department is one of the largest publicly operated solid waste collection and disposal systems in the southeastern United States. It provides waste collection services to more than 350,000 households, twice a week and manages more than two million tons of waste annually.
The department remains committed to enhancing operational efficiencies and sustainability initiatives, ensuring that Miami-Dade County maintains a high standard of solid waste management services for its residents.
