Man wanted on multiple charges apprehended after attempting to evade police

Officers from the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD), have arrested Kevin Paul Prater, for various crimes stemming from his attempts to evade capture as well as endangering the general public.

According to investigators, on November 20th, 2024, at approximately 12:35 p.m., officers from MDPD's Homeland Security Bureau and Priority Response Team established a surveillance on Mr. Prater's vehicle in an attempt to apprehend him in connection to an ongoing criminal investigation. Once Mr. Prater occupied his vehicle, detectives unsuccessfully attempted a traffic stop. Upon sight of the police vehicles, Mr. Prater fled from officers at a high rate of speed. With the assistance of MDPD's Aviation Unit, officers were able to locate the vehicle in the area of SW 72nd Avenue and SW 41st Street, where the subject continued to attempt to evade capture by forcefully slamming his vehicle into multiple occupied civilian and police vehicles. After many unsuccessful attempts to flee the area, the subject was ultimately arrested and charged accordingly. The subject was transported to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue for treatment for injuries sustained while intentionally colliding into other vehicles.
