Explore Miami-Dade’s rich Black History: Educational bus tours return this February
Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works to host annual bus tours
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) are thrilled to announce the return of the highly anticipated Black History Month Educational Bus Tours. These tours celebrate the rich history and enduring contributions of Black communities in Miami-Dade County. This year’s tours are scheduled for Saturday, February 8, 2025, and Saturday, February 22, 2025.
“Miami-Dade’s diversity is its greatest strength, and our Black History Month tours are an opportunity to celebrate the profound contributions of our Black American communities,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “These tours provide an enriching experience, offering a deeper understanding of the stories and achievements that have shaped our community. I have been blessed to join these tours during the last two years since we’ve brought them back and look forward to this year’s edition.”
The free, two-and-a-half-hour narrated tours will highlight historically significant neighborhoods, including Coconut Grove, Overtown, Liberty City, and Little Haiti. While participants will enjoy the comfort of a bus ride, select stops will allow for a closer exploration of key landmarks, offering attendees a chance to connect with Miami-Dade’s vibrant history on a more personal level.
“Public transportation is more than a means of getting from one place to another—it’s a bridge to the past and a connection to our shared history,” said Josiel Ferrer-Diaz, Interim Director and CEO of DTPW. “We are proud to provide these tours as a platform for meaningful engagement with the stories that define our county.”
The tours will depart promptly at 10 a.m. from the Stephen P. Clark Center, located at 111 N.W. First Street, Miami, FL. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents are encouraged to reserve their seats early to secure a spot. For more information and to reserve your seat, click to register!
