Community Action and Human Services Department marks 20 years of excellence with successful re-accreditation
The Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) proudly announces its successful re-accreditation by the Council on Accreditation (COA), marking over 20 years of commitment to excellence in social services.
COA, an internationally recognized, independent accrediting body, evaluates public, nonprofit, and private organizations to ensure they adhere to best practices in service delivery and administrative oversight. CAHSD first achieved accreditation in 2003 as the former Miami-Dade County Department of Human Services. The department has continuously met the rigorous standards set by COA, reaffirming its dedication to providing high-quality services to the community.
"This re-accreditation highlights the steadfast commitment of the Community Action and Human Services Department to delivering exceptional, life-changing services to our residents”, said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “For more than 20 years, CAHSD has consistently maintained the highest standards of care, ensuring that individuals and families in Miami-Dade County have the support they need to thrive. We are so proud of this achievement and remain committed to strengthening our community through excellence in social services and our “no wrong door approach” to meeting the needs of our residents.”
A part of the re-accreditation process, CAHSD underwent an in-depth self-study and an on-site review, which concluded on January 30, 2025. This accreditation certifies that CAHSD’s policies and programs meet best practices across its diverse range of social services, including case management, domestic violence shelters, rehabilitative centers, adult day care, home care, workforce development, and mental health/substance use programs. Additionally, it ensures that the department follows effective administrative practices with proper oversight to enhance service delivery.
“Following a thorough peer review visit to our programs, I am proud that the Council on Accreditation continues to recognize the important work that we in the community and how we do it,” said CAHSD Department Director Sonia Grice. “We are proud of our CAHSD family for their continued hard work and dedication to bringing quality social services to the community every day. Their dedication and professionalism make recognitions like this possible.”
CAHSD’s accreditation is valid for five years, with the next re-accreditation process scheduled for 2029. For more information about CAHSD and is services, visit www.miamidade.gov/socialservices.
