Global survey says: MIA is best airport for layovers
Global Traveler magazine award follows Food & Wine’s top 10 list
(MIAMI, May 5, 2025) – Global Traveler, the global news source for luxury travelers, announced on May 1 that Miami International Airport won its Best Airport for Layovers Award during its 13th annual Leisure Lifestyle Awards. The list of winners from around the world will also be included in Global Traveler’s May Leisure Travel Issue. The global award follows MIA’s ranking last month in Food & Wine magazine’s annual list of Top 10 U.S. Airports for Food and Drink.
“Congratulations to the entire MIA team for once again earning this global recognition for outstanding service,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “As MIA’s $9 billion Modernization in Action Plan continues to transform MIA and enhance the airport experience with new shops, restaurants, and lounges, MIA is setting a new standard - and I’m confident this is just the beginning of many more honors to come."
Global Traveler conducted a survey of its readers from September 20, 2024, to January 30, 2025, with open-ended questions for the best in many categories of leisure, luxury, and lifestyle travel. The survey was published in the magazine, as an insert within subscriber copies, as a direct mail questionnaire, online, and was emailed.
"This year, it's lucky No. 13 for our Leisure Lifestyle Awards! Choosing where to spend hard-earned time off is not a decision to be taken lightly; these winners know the value of travelers' time and money, and they continue to elevate the experience and go above and beyond. Congratulations to the winners," said Francis X. Gallagher, publisher and CEO, FXExpress Publications, Inc. "Our readers know the best of the best in the travel industry, so these accolades are well-deserved."
