Miami-Dade County to kick off major South Dade Regional Library interior renovation project and launch solar panel array, May 16
Library to close for renovations and improvements starting May 25
On Friday, May 16th, at 9 a.m., Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Miami-Dade County Commission Vice Chair Kionne McGhee, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins and the Miami-Dade Public Library System will host an event to kick-off the Interior Renovation and Modernization Project and celebrate the completion of the solar panel array at the South Dade Regional Library, located at 10750 SW 211 Street, Cutler Bay, FL 33189.
The public is invited to attend to learn more about the exciting renovation plans and the installation of the new rooftop solar panel array – Miami-Dade County’s third large-scale solar pilot project. In addition to providing long-term cost savings, it will help reduce our community’s carbon footprint and exemplifies the County’s commitment to sustainable design and building practices.
The solar panel project was completed by Advanced Green Technologies (AGT), a local South Florida company.
Beginning Sunday, May 25, 2025, the South Dade Regional Library will close for the duration of the approximately year-and-a-half-long interior renovation project to allow for its completion. The renovation and modernization of the library, which originally opened to the public in November 1977, will include the following improvements:
• Redesigned atrium and lobby featuring multifunctional stair seating
• Addition of a second auditorium for events and community programs
• New study rooms and privacy pods for individual or group work
• State-of-the-art YOUmedia Miami technology space for teens
• New U.S. Passport Services Office
• Fully renovated Children’s Room with a dedicated storytelling area
• Sensory-Friendly Room to support neurodivergent patrons
• “Catio” lounge for adoptable cats in partnership with Miami-Dade County Animal Services
• Updated shelving and furniture equipped with USB/electrical charging ports
• Renovated restrooms with modern finishes and water-efficient fixtures
• Upgraded desktop and laptop computers for public use
• Wireless network upgrade to Wi-Fi 6 for faster, more reliable internet access
• New flooring, carpeting, acoustical ceilings, energy-efficient lighting and enhanced electrical and telecom infrastructure
• Elevator modernization
The project’s design services are by Forbes Architects, with construction services by H. A. Contracting Corp.
