The Miami-Dade Economic Advocacy Trust (MDEAT) proudly announces the Inaugural 2025 MDEAT Activist Awards, a new countywide initiative recognizing nonprofit organizations that are expanding opportunity, advancing economic mobility, and strengthening communities across Miami-Dade. The awards highlight the core pillars of MDEAT’s mission to advance economic development, increase access to housing and empower youth through strategic programs and services. Guided by the theme “From Ancestry to Advocacy”, the awards honor the legacy of past community leaders while celebrating the organizations carrying that work forward today.

"The Activist Awards highlight the nonprofits that are opening pathways to opportunity in Miami-Dade,” said Bill Diggs, Executive Director of MDEAT. This initiative ensures the community plays a direct role in identifying the organizations driving progress and strengthening our county."
Community voting is open from November 18 through November 24 at bit.ly/MDEATvoting, empowering the public to select organizations they believe are creating the strongest impact. Two organizations will be honored, one Established Nonprofit operating three or more years, and one Emerging Organization operating between six months and two years, reflecting both longstanding leaders and rising changemakers shaping Miami-Dade's future.
The community is invited to attend the inaugural MDEAT Activist Awards ceremony on December 3, 2025 and will bring together community members, partners, and local leaders to celebrate organizations advancing MDEAT’s mission and contributing to a stronger, more connected Miami-Dade County. Attendance is free and registration is available at bit.ly/MDEATtickets.
Members of the press are invited and welcome to attend. Please confirm attendance in advance as well as requested media interviews. For more information, please contact Sharelle Barton at 645-243-2112 or [email protected].
