Deputy Involved Shooting Involving Armed Carjacking Suspect UPDATE 2
MIAMI-DADE ( January 13, 2026 )–
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a shooting involving a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) deputy.
According to investigators, at approximately 8:54 p.m., an armed carjacking occurred in the area of SW 279 Street and SW 127 Avenue involving three armed males.
Deputies from the South District Crime Suppression Team and Special Enforcement Team located the vehicle in the area of SE 25 Avenue and SE 28 Drive. The subjects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
A foot pursuit ensued, and an MDSO deputy discharged his service weapon, striking one of the subjects, who was armed with an assault rifle. Two other subjects were subsequently taken into custody. The deputy rendered lifesaving aid to the injured subject until Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived and transported him to a nearby hospital in stable condition. No members of the community or any deputies were injured.
Two firearms were recovered at the scene. The investigation continues.

The subjects have been arrested and charged accordingly. Certain information of the juvenile that was charged with a misdemeanor has been redacted as per F.S. 119.
