The Office of Community Advocacy and the Florida Department of Health join community providers to co-host the "Ending the HIV Epidemic" Health Fair Feb. 11

The Office of Community Advocacy and the Florida Department of Health (DOH) in Miami-Dade County will join various community providers to co-host the annual "Ending the HIV Epidemic" Health Fair. This public event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 11, in the lobby of the Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW 1st Street, Miami, FL, 33128.

Participants will have the opportunity to be tested for various health screenings free of charge. The "Ending the HIV Epidemic" Health Fair is a great opportunity for individuals to learn about the importance of regular testing, risk reduction, and HIV/AIDS prevention. As of 2024, there were 30,074 persons living with an HIV diagnosis in Miami-Dade County, making it a public health issue.

In 2017, resolution 622-17 declared the third week in February as "Getting 2 Zero Miami-Dade County Awareness Week" with the goal to get to zero new HIV/AIDS cases, zero AIDS related deaths, zero stigma, and zero discrimination. On May 4, 2021, the Board of County Commissioners adopted resolution 453-21, renaming the “Getting to Zero in Miami-Dade County Awareness Week” to “Ending the HIV Epidemic in Miami-Dade County Awareness Week,” on the third week in February of each year.
