Miami-Dade County Parks achieves Certified Autism Center® designation, advancing inclusion across one of the nation’s largest park systems
Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department (PROS) has successfully completed the Certified Autism Center® (CAC) designation through the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), marking a major milestone in the department’s commitment to inclusion and accessibility.
With this achievement, Miami-Dade County Parks is now recognized as one of the largest parks and recreation departments in the United States to earn the Certified Autism Center® designation. The certification reflects a department-wide effort to ensure that parks, programs, facilities, and services are welcoming and accessible to individuals with autism and sensory sensitivities.
The CAC designation requires comprehensive training for staff and demonstrates a measurable commitment to understanding, serving, and supporting individuals of all abilities. Miami-Dade County Parks staff across divisions participated in the training process, reinforcing the department’s focus on inclusive service delivery at every level.
“This certification represents more than a designation — it reflects our values in action,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “The dedication of the Parks Department ensures that individuals and families of all abilities can feel welcome and supported throughout our park system.”
“This certification further strengthens our commitment to being a place of inclusion and builds upon the meaningful work already completed through the UM CARD Program,” said Miami-Dade County Commissioner Raquel A. Regalado.
Miami-Dade County’s longstanding collaboration with the University of Miami Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (UM CARD), is a partnership between Miami-Dade County, University of Miami and Nova Southeastern University to advance autism awareness, training, and inclusive practices across County services.
Miami-Dade County Parks is a proud national leader in inclusive parks and recreation, setting a high standard for public agencies committed to serving diverse communities.
