Veteran Services Program

housing-social-services assistance-programs elderly-persons, persons-with-disabilities Eligible veterans, as well as their children, parents, families and widows, can get help with claims made with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The Veteran Services Program assists Veterans and their families (spouse, children, widows, parents of Veterans) with applying for Veteran benefits, claims and appeals to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. You and your family can get assistance in applying for federal, state and local benefits. The program helps current and former veterans seeking assistance with federal programs and services. There is no cost to receive veteran services. The goal of the Veteran Services Program is to: <ul> <li>Inform Veterans and their family members of the benefits available through the United States Veterans Affairs Office and the array of social services available at CAHSD</li> <li>Facilitate the process when applying for benefits</li> <li>Develop relationships/partnerships with various entities (FIU, Vet Center, Transition Inc., South Florida Workforce, the Advocate Program and Veteran Administration)</li> </ul> Assistance includes: <ul> <li>Hospitalization</li> <li>Burial</li> <li>Compensation</li> <li>Pension</li> <li>Dependence and indemnity compensation</li> <li>Education</li> <li>Veterans Adminstration home loan</li> </ul> Requirements: <ul> <li>You must provide proof of military service</li> <li>Your spouse must provide a certified marriage certificate</li> <li>You must provide birth certificates for your children</li> </ul> If veteran is deceased, a certified copy of death certificate must be submitted. Custom Miami-Dade County Veterans Service Coalition (MDCVSC) Mission: To better coordinate the delivery of services, increase communication among services providers, raise awareness about the benefits and resources available to veterans and their spouses, and advocate for veterans' benefits and wellbeing in Miami-Dade County. MDCVSC will: <ul> <li>Host bi-monthly meetings</li> <li>Create a membership form and a system to process the forms to ensure accuracy of the information of Coalition members</li> <li>Create and maintain an updated Service Directory</li> <li>Identify new service providers</li> <li>Create a protocol to vet new agencies serving veterans in Miami Dade County</li> <li>Create committees as needed to collectively address the needs of veterans</li> </ul> Meeting Location Coordinator: John W. CSD performs functions and delivers services that address objectives of both the Health and Society and the Public Safety strategic areas. CSD provides a continuum of comprehensive services and programs that support residents of all ages from children to the elderly. The Community Services Department’s service delivery model emphasizes a coordinated community response approach involving the active engagement of public and private providers to ensure quality and accessibility of well-integrated services. The Department has family and community resource centers, one kiosk at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center, and outreach programs to reach under-supported areas in Miami-Dade County. Comprehensive services include, but are not limited to, Head Start and school readiness, elderly services, veterans’ services, family and child empowerment programs, migrant farmworker programs, domestic violence and violence prevention, emergency food, shelter, utility assistance, home repair and weatherizing and substance abuse rehabilitative services.
