Product Approval

The Product Control Section receives applications for product approval and processes, reviews and issues approval or denial of building construction materials, products and systems used for the protection of the building envelope. The Section mainly addresses windows, exterior glazing, wall cladding, roofing, exterior doors, skylights, glass block, siding and shutters.

Testing laboratories that perform required tests to obtain product approval must also be certified by Miami-Dade County. The Section also provides quality assurance services for the products approved. The high standards set by the Product Control Section are the foundation upon which Miami-Dade County has gained a national reputation as creating the benchmark for code-related approval of building systems and components. The Section reviews an average of 1,250 product approval applications annually and conducts more than 850 annual quality assurance audits of manufacturers, fabricators and laboratories.

Utilizing the Product Approval Search, users can search a database for product approvals, certificates and listings of products and systems that have been approved for use on buildings in both Miami-Dade County and throughout the country.
