Barbara Gomez - Director

Barbara Gomez was appointed director of the Miami-Dade County Finance Department in May of 2023, serving all County departments, offices and the public conducting financial transactions with Miami-Dade County. In this role, she is responsible for leading a team of professionals who provide financial compliance and guidance, centralized accounting, cash management, debt service, business systems solutions, and code compliance administration and collection of delinquent accounts owed to the County departments. Most recently she served as the deputy finance director from 2019 to 2023.

Prior to joining Miami-Dade County in 2019, she made significant contributions to the success of PepsiCo Latin America Beverages where she served as the chief financial officer for North Latin America and Mexico. She was responsible for overseeing the financial operations of a vast and diverse region, gaining invaluable experience in managing complex financial challenges within a global context. 

Throughout her career she has held key leadership positions with Fortune 500 companies, multi-nationals, and in the public sector, solidifying her reputation as a trusted expert in her field. In addition, she has been actively involved in community and professional organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Feeding South Florida, and Big Brothers Big Sister. She was also a key contributor in developing the PepsiCo Latin America Beverage Mentoring Program and the Diversity & Inclusion Council.

Barbara brings over 30 years of extensive leadership and hands-on experience in finance, management, planning, accounting and control to her new role. Her ability to navigate the details of financial management, coupled with her strategic thinking and analytical skills, has consistently delivered positive results for the organizations she has served. She has a proven track record of implementing efficient financial practices, optimizing resource allocation and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. 

Barbara holds a Master of Professional Accounting and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Miami. Additionally, she is a certified public accountant in the state of Florida, a testament to her commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professional integrity and expertise, and she has served on the Board's Audit Committee of several companies.
