Ursula Price - Executive Director

A consummate community collaborator and an impassioned social architect, Ursula Price is the Executive Director of the Miami-Dade County Independent Civilian Panel (ICP). Price relocated to South Florida in 2023 to accept the role as the first head of the ICP after serving the City of New Orleans Independent Police Monitor's Office for nearly a decade. It was Price who tirelessly organized and advocated for the creation of the Independent Police Monitor's Office and established the agency's outreach, education and mediation programs while building out its comprehensive complaint intake process based on nationwide best practices. During her eight-year stint at the agency, Price labored in many roles such as Acting Police Monitor, Deputy Police Monitor, and Community Relations Director.

Price also helped establish Families Overcoming Injustice (FOI), a non-profit organization in New Orleans composed of survivors of loved ones killed by police officers. As one of its more notable accomplishments, Families Overcoming Injustice was instrumental in writing New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) anti-retaliation policy and many other governing procedures that influenced change in the department's organizational culture. FOI started to offer legal and emotional support to families whose loved one was killed by NOPD. Over time, FOI evolved. It now offers direct service and leadership training to impacted families. It organizes them to hold an annual National Day Against Police Brutality Vigil and to promote social change through law and policy.

Born and raised in rural Mississippi, Price's experiences with continual bouts of systemic racism created the foundation that etched her path to the rich melting pot of Louisiana. It was in New Orleans where she found her voice and began a career as a defense investigator and mitigation specialist. Later, she became involved in community organizing and embraced many efforts in the advancement of social justice rights.

Price is passionate about developing grassroots leaders. She is committed to cross-racial unification. And she is focused on building and wielding collective power within communities across the nation.

Price holds an undergraduate degree in political science from Millsaps College, a master's degree in political science from the University of Chicago, and is a graduate of Rutgers University Center on Innovation in Worker Organization's Women in Labor Leadership Executive Cohort. Price is also the 2020 recipient of the Women with a Vision Freedom Fighter Award and a former Soros US Justice Fellow. She is a proud mother of one future Heroine and strives to ensure her family and community feel the power of the collective.
