The Miami-Dade Fire Prevention and Safety Appeals Board, established in 1987, hears appeals of decisions of any Fire Marshal Miami-Dade County, including Miami-Dade, Miami, Hialeah, Coral Gables, Miami Beach and Key Biscayne. The Board operates in accordance with Section 14-46 and 14-48 of the Code of Miami-Dade County. The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department is charged with hosting and supporting the Board.
The Board is comprised of 13 members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. The Board appoints a chairperson and vice-chairperson. Staff includes a Board Secretary and County Attorney. The Board members are volunteers with expertise and experience in a wide variety of disciplines.
The position requirements for the Board member are one person from each: Fuel Industry, Engineer, Firefighting Service, Property Manager, Safety Engineer, County Manager (or designee), City or County Administrator, Fire Service Educator, Firefighting Service, Fire Insurance Industry, Architect, General Contractor, and a Dade League of Cities representative. There are currently vacancies on the Board. Appeals Board meetings are held in the Training Facility at Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department, 9300 NW 41 Street, Doral.
Board orders are the decisions of the cases brought to the Fire Prevention and Safety Appeals Board. Email the Board Secretary to request a certified copy of a specific Board order. Copies of orders are $1 per page.
