Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo, Jr., reiterates concerns related to increased tolling in Miami-Dade County

Starting September 23, toll collection began on the SR-826 Palmetto Express Lanes in both directions between West Flagler Street and NW 154th Street, and along I-75 from the Palmetto to NW 170th Street. At the moment, Florida Department of Transportation officials have said there is no cap on the tolls, and the price will change depending on traffic flow. However, drivers will pay a minimum of 50 cents per segment.

Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo, Jr. applauds Miami Dade College Board for closing the Confucius Institute

The Miami Dade College Board closed its Chinese government-run Confucius Institute Program today, September 5, 2019. The Confucius Institute is a public educational organization controlled, funded, and mostly staffed by the Chinese government. The Confucius Institute operated programs at more than 100 American colleges and universities, drawing increasing criticism for infringing on and interfering with academic freedom.

County Commission approves Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo Jr.'s resolution urging the United States Congress to designate Haiti for TPS

On September 4, 2019, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commission approved Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo Jr.’s resolution urging the United States Congress to enact U.S. Senator Marco Rubio’s S. 2176 and Representative Alcee Hastings’s H.R. 4112 legislation that requiring the Secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to designate Haiti for Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Commissioner Bovo statement on the Palmetto Expressway

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo Jr. has issued the following public statement regarding the Palmetto Expressway (State Road 826): “The situation residents are facing on the Palmetto Expressway is unacceptable. The Florida Department of Transportation has recently installed plastic poles along the Palmetto, creating yet another express lane,” Commissioner Bovo said.
