Edgar Martin named Pebble Program winner for going above and beyond

Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department (WASD) proudly recognizes Edgar Martin, Plant Electrical Supervisor, as the 2024 Annual Winner of the Pebble Program. This employee recognition initiative celebrates excellence, innovation, and service that advance WASD’s values, mission, and vision.
"We highlight how each employee's actions, like a pebble creating ripples, play a vital role in our pursuit of excellence. Together, we set new standards, inspire innovation and celebrate the achievements that make WASD a model utility,” explains Safety, Risk Management and Employee Development Division Chief LaKeisha G. Brown.
Following the tragic Surfside condo collapse, new building recertification standards mandated infrared thermography inspections for high-ampere electrical systems. However, WASD faced a challenge: the department lacked certified staff to perform these crucial inspections, leaving some facilities, including PS0522, marked unsafe.
Edgar rose to the occasion. In addition to his regular duties, he committed to performing the inspections himself, becoming a certified Level II thermographer. His commitment not only helped reopen PS0522 but also laid out the groundwork for future building recertifications across WASD. His contributions reflect WASD's values of Leadership, Empowerment, Stewardship, Public Trust, and Service.
WASD also proudly recognized the following outstanding employees during the 2024 Pebble Program cycle:
