Elevating and Encouraging Others

“Elevating and encouraging others around me” is how Janessa Brunson-Britt, a Customer Service Representative II lead for Miami-Dade’s Water and Sewer Department (WASD) demonstrates her commitment to excellence.

Janessa, a ten-year veteran at WASD, began her career with Miami-Dade County through a temporary agency before securing a full-time position as a customer service representative in 2018. “I’ve always worked in customer service,” shared Janessa. “I enjoy helping others whenever and wherever I’m needed.” Being a team player and always willing to go the extra mile led to Janessa’s promotion to Lead Customer Service Representative II in February 2024.

This new role allowed Janessa to not only assist the residents of Miami-Dade County but also her colleagues.  “I took the position as a lead to have the opportunity to support other agents in the department,” she shared. “I’ve had the opportunity to lead training classes for other representatives and being able to see them succeed using concepts I’ve learned – and encouraging them with a ‘you can do this’ mindset – has been such a privilege.”

Janessa recalls her first training: “I was so nervous. I wanted to ensure they benefited from what I had to share and most importantly that they knew I am just a fellow colleague.” That class concluded with the trainees organizing a celebration in recognition of Janessa’s first class. “They brought me balloons, food, and shared how appreciative they were.”

Mayling Fernandez, a Customer Service Supervisor, shared “Janessa demonstrates exceptional service, professionalism, and unwavering dedication. Her genuine commitment to excellence and consistently going above and beyond sets her apart as an asset to our team.”

In addition to being a cornerstone of the Customer Service Division at WASD, Janessa is a proud mother of three. “Being a mother is my priority,” she shared. She enjoys spending quality time with her family, listening to R&B, attending live music events, reading, and traveling. Janessa shared these parting words: “Kindness and respect go a long way. Life is hard, and it’s important to be there for each other. Kindness and respect don’t cost a thing, and that’s something we can offer each other.”

Keep Thriving, Janessa!
