Kennel License

Kennels are used to house, board, train, and breed animals. As of July 1, 2025, Miami-Dade Animal Services no longer issues or sells kennel licenses or related animal business permits in Miami-Dade County.

Licensing, permits and regulatory oversight for kennels and other animal-related businesses are now handled at the state level.

Residents and businesses seeking information regarding kennel licenses, breeders, guard dog services, mobile groomers, pet care centers or pet dealers should contact the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services or the Department of Business and Professional Regulation at 850-410-3800.

Miami-Dade Animal Services continues to enforce animal welfare regulations, but does not issue or renew business permits.

Interested parties should contact us to request a License Application Packet. Upon receipt of your request an Animal Services Investigator will contact you to schedule an informative meeting detailing the application process.

If you sell pets, they must be microchipped and registered to the new owner and must be sold with an original official certificate of veterinary inspection (Sec. 5-10).

Kennel owners must present evidence that their business is legal, including:
- Corporate documents,
- Federal identification number from the IRS,
- Certificate of Occupancy (Miami-Dade County and / or municipality)
- Business Tax Receipt (Miami-Dade County and / or the municipality).
