The World Is Coming to Miami-Dade — And We’re Ready!

This month marks the beginning of something truly historic for our community. For the first time, Miami-Dade County will host matches as part of the FIFA World Cup 26, one of the largest sporting events on the planet. Over the course of several weeks, hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world will make their way to our community to celebrate the beautiful game, experience our culture, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Seven official matches will be played at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, including four group-stage matches, a Round of 32 game, a quarterfinal match, and the bronze final. While the schedule runs from June 15 through July 18, preparations have been underway for much longer.
At the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, we've spent more than a year planning for this moment. We have worked closely with the FIFA World Cup 26 Miami Host Committee and collaborated with local, regional, state, and federal partners to ensure that every aspect of public safety has been carefully considered. Through tabletop exercises, security workshops, planning meetings, and operational coordination, we have prepared for a wide range of scenarios while keeping one goal at the forefront: ensuring that residents and visitors can enjoy this once-in-a-generation event safely.
MDSO will serve as the primary public safety agency for the World Cup matches in Miami-Dade. Thanks in part to federal funding secured by Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart, we have enhanced our capabilities with new mobile command resources, specialized equipment, cybersecurity tools, and other assets that will help us maintain a visible and responsive security presence throughout the event.
While these matches will take place inside Hard Rock Stadium, the excitement will extend well beyond the venue. Whether you're attending a game, visiting a Fan Festival, enjoying a watch party, or simply taking part in the celebrations happening across our community, our deputies will be strategically deployed throughout the county.
As always, I encourage everyone to remain alert. If you see something, say something. Large international events can attract individuals looking to exploit others through criminal activity, including human trafficking. If you observe someone who appears to be in distress, being controlled by another person, or showing signs of exploitation, please report it immediately.
We must also remain vigilant against those who may seek to disrupt the peace. Our law enforcement partners will be working together with constant communication and coordination, but public safety is strongest when the community remains engaged and aware. If you become aware of any indication that someone may be planning to harm others, contact law enforcement right away.
Most importantly, I want everyone to enjoy this extraordinary moment. Cheer for your team. Celebrate responsibly. Don't allow alcohol, emotions, or poor decisions to turn a memorable day into a regrettable one.
The world is coming to Miami-Dade, and the world will be watching. Let's show them the hospitality, diversity, and community spirit that make our county one of the greatest places anywhere to live, work, and visit.
Enjoy the matches, stay safe, and welcome to the World Cup!
