Observed annually on July 25, World Drowning Prevention Day raises awareness of water safety and the importance of drowning prevention. The day serves as a reminder that drowning is a preventable public health issue and that increased awareness, education, and preparedness can help save lives.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue encourages residents and visitors to take extra precautions when around pools, beaches, lakes and other bodies of water. Parents and caregivers should provide constant, close, and attentive supervision of children, as drowning can happen quickly and silently.
