Crandon Park

Crandon Park's beautiful two-mile beach is consistently named among the top 10 beaches in the nation. It is one of the most popular recreation destinations in all of Miami-Dade County, enjoyed by millions of residents and tourists each year.

The beach is celebrated for its pristine sand, calm water, winding promenade, concession stands, multiple picnic areas with tables and grills, and convenient parking for just under 3,000 vehicles. Near the beach is Crandon's Family Amusement Center.

Crandon's famous offshore sandbar protects swimmers from a crashing surf. The sandbar changes constantly because of seasonal squalls, storms and currents. It is enjoyed by many people who swim to it and walk or wade along its length.

Crandon's ocean and waves offer challenging sails for wind warriors. Kiteboarding equipment rentals and lessons are offered at the park's beachside water sports concessions.

To assist those who are mobility impaired, special beach wheelchairs have been placed at beach areas.

No flotation devices are allowed on our beaches. We want everyone to enjoy our waters. Following this park rule helps to keep everyone safe. It also helps us to be good stewards of the environment as well as protect our natural areas. Chapter 26 of the Code of Miami-Dade, Rule 16 states: ''No person, minor or adult, shall enter or be in water at any bathing area wearing, carrying, pushing or towing any flotation device.

Please note - personal paddleboards/kayaks are prohibited to launch from the beach unless they are through an EcoAdventures tour or rented through the watersports concession. Personal vessels must launch from the Marina.

Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne is a championship 18-hole golf course. It is the perfect alternative to civilization where you can spend a day enveloped by the tropics. Crandon Golf is an explosion of color and light surrounded by water, mangroves and lush, tropical foliage. You can experience the local wildlife in its natural habitat too! Secluded and inviting, Crandon is the only public course on the Bay.

The course is considered one of the most beautiful and difficult par-72 courses in the state.

Crandon's seventh hole is touted as ''one of the greatest holes in golf,'' a gorgeous par 4 that doglegs to the right and sends your golf ball soaring over the beautiful bay. The course has been rated in the top 10 courses by Golfweek, and one of America's top 75 upscale courses by Golf Digest.

From the first hole - a dog leg par 5 that requires a drive over water and mangroves - to the last - another par 5 with water on both sides of the fairway - Crandon Golf Key Biscayne has, in many ways, become Miami-Dade's signature golf course.

A single-rider golf cart is available for persons with disabilities (with 24 hours advance notice). Please call the golf shop to arrange for use of the single-rider golf cart.

Traveling to Marina by Boat

Approach from Sea: Located at St. Mile 1094, two miles south of the Rickenbacker Causeway fixed bridge. Going south, head on a course of 180°. Leave ICW Marker "73" to starboard and follow the well-marked county channel northeast to the marina basin using red right return rules.

Position: 80° 9' 20'' W.

Approach Depth: 6'.

Dockside Depth: 5' to 12'.

Monitors VHF Channel 16/Working Channel 68. Call VHF Channel 16 when approaching this marina for slip assignment and assistance in docking.

Facility

Miami-Dade County Parks has entered into an interim agreement with USTA Florida, a nationally recognized, nonprofit organization and official section of the United States Tennis Association, to operate the Crandon Park Tennis Center, beginning January 16, 2026.

This one-year business permit will allow us to restore operating hours and court availability to previous levels while also expanding play opportunities for residents and visitors. USTA Florida brings extensive experience in managing tennis programs in public park settings and a strong commitment to community access, youth development, and the growth of the sport.

The Crandon Park Visitor and Nature Center is located on the breathtaking barrier island of Key Biscayne, with the Atlantic Ocean on the east side and Biscayne Bay to the west.

Visitors to the park can explore the various ecosystems of the key including the dunes, mangroves, and coastal hammock and seagrass beds; and observe herons, ospreys and many brilliantly colored butterflies. The island is also home to rare and beautiful plants like the beach peanut, Biscayne prickly ash and the coontie.

The beautiful sandy beach, coastal dunes and tropical hardwood hammocks are an important nesting and feeding ground for migrating songbirds, hawks and sea turtles. Seagrass beds provide a home for mangrove snapper, parrotfish, crabs, shrimp, sea stars and puffer fish.

The Bear Cut Preserve located in Crandon Park is a designated natural Environment Study Area, and serves as a window to the wilderness that was once South Florida. Miami-Dade Parks' naturalists guide visitors through the preserve to explore the hammock, ocean and beach communities and see the amazing animals and plants that inhabit South Florida.

Birthday picnic shelters at the Amusement Area are available for rent.

The historic carousel is at the heart of the new Family Amusement Center that includes an old-fashioned outdoor roller rink.

In 1972, the carousel and roller rink were locked up when the Crandon Zoo moved to South Dade. Left behind in the dark silence were the historic jumping horses, crafted of wood and molded aluminum in 1949 by the famous Allen Herschell Company.

The brightly painted horses recall the whimsy of a child's dream with their pictures of dancing dolphins, butterflies, and pirates painted onto their sides. With names like "Mercy," "Pretty Phoebe" and "Danny Boy," the horses also immortalize the volunteers who lovingly, painstakingly brought them back to life with fresh coats of paint and much imagination.

Crandon Park has a rich history. It was once home to Indian tribes, soldiers and pirates; and was once used as a huge coconut plantation.

Crandon Park was a donation, made to the County, in 1940 by heirs of Commodore William John Matheson, a wealthy aniline dye businessman who used the land as a coconut plantation, with the condition that the land be used as a public park. In exchange for the land donation Chairman Charles H. Crandon of the County Commission, for whom the park is named, offered to have the County build a causeway that would connect Key Biscayne to the mainland.

Zoo Miami had its origins in Crandon Park’s botanical garden. The County purchased several animals in 1948, which started the Crandon Zoo. By 1965, Crandon Zoo had grown into one of the major zoos in the country, with over 1,000 animals and about 380 species. Today, with amenities such as Crandon Gardens, a nature center, marina, golf course and a tennis center, Crandon Park is visited by locals and tourists who enjoy the many recreational opportunities afforded.
