Miami-Dade Parks and Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to host 13th Annual Summer Safety Splash on May 13
May is National Water Safety Month – a time to highlight the importance of safer practices in and around the water. Drowning is the leading cause of death for children between ages one to four years old, and the second leading cause of accidental death among children ages 0-17. With summer months around the corner for Miami-Dade County students, it’s a perfect time to learn about water safety at Miami-Dade Park’s 13th Annual Summer Safety Splash event on Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m.to 1 p.m., at Wilbur B. Bell Park (West Perrine Aquatic Center), 10301 SW 170 Terrace, Miami FL 33157.
Summer Safety Splash is presented by Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces in partnership with Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and other Miami-Dade Drowning Prevention Coalition partners. This Coalition was founded by Miami-Dade Parks and brings together public and private sector partners to join forces on water safety and swimming instruction.
The event, which kicks off Miami-Dade Park’s reinvigorated “Every Lesson Counts” water safety campaign, is open to the public and will provide parents with resources on swimming lessons, water and child safety and much more. Everyone is encouraged to wear swimsuits and bring towels. Free admission and parking. Win prizes!
The event will feature the following activities for children ages two and above:
● Water activities
● Introduction to swimming lessons (Ages two to three, an adult must accompany each child in the pool)
● Learn about car seat safety, bicycle safety, poison prevention, and more.
