Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR), in collaboration with North American Vehicle Rescue Association (NAVRA), will be hosting the 3rd Annual Florida Rescue Challenge 2023 at its Training Facility in Doral, Florida, from Nov. 16-18, 2023. Working in partnership with NAVRA, MDFR is proud to host this event once again right in our backyard in Miami-Dade County. This annual, hands-on training event gives an opportunity for the competing teams of first responders from across the USA, Canada and beyond to further improve their skills to better serve their communities. During the rescue challenges, rescue teams will participate in real-life, team-based challenges and training events designed to promote good team dynamics, improve communication, and promote better patient care and public safety, as well as increase rescue scene proficiency. The MDFR Blackheart Extrication Team will be competing in this year’s event. After representing MDFR on the international stage in October, the Blackhearts won second place overall for extrication and took first place as the Best Extrication Team in the Tier 2 extrication category at the 2023 World Rescue Organization World Rescue Challenge in Lanzarote, Spain. If you have never seen the Vehicle Extrication or the Advanced Life Support (ALS) Medical Challenges, you are in for a treat! This educational competition event is also a great opportunity for members of the community and their families to come out to our MDFR training facility to cheer on and to see the first responders in action, all while taking advantage of the many fun-filled, family-friendly activities available during the event. We also have full-time and part-time professional lifeguards protecting Haulover and Crandon beaches. We support disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation needs.
