Miami-Dade County to break ground on expansion of South Dade Transit Oriented Community
development
On Tuesday, December 5 at 10 a.m., the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation
and Public Works (DTPW) will join TREO Group - a Miami-based real estate investment
and development firm – in the groundbreaking of VOX Miami Phase II, a unique mixed-use,
transit-oriented student housing development adjacent to the South Miami Metrorail
station.
<p>On Tuesday, December 5 at 10 a.m., the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation
and Public Works (DTPW) will join TREO Group - a Miami-based real estate investment
and development firm – in the groundbreaking of VOX Miami Phase II, a unique
mixed-use, transit-oriented student housing development adjacent to the South Miami
Metrorail station.</p>
<p>Transit Oriented Communities (TOC) such as VOX Miami help enhance connectivity
for area residents and businesses for safer accessibility to jobs, stores, and schools.
VOX Miami enjoys a strategic location near the University of Miami’s main campus
and squarely positioned at one of the region’s most heavily trafficked and recognizable
intersections – US1 and Sunset Drive.</p>
<p>Phase I of the community development is a unique, adaptive reuse project which
was constructed above the previously existing five-story Metrorail parking garage
with over 650 parking spaces. Phase I was successfully completed in August 2021. Upon
completion, VOX Miami Phase I and Phase II combined will consist of 262 student housing
units and approximately 15,000 SF of ground floor retail space.</p>

We build, operate and maintain movable and fixed bridges, swales, roadway surface
repairs, guardrails, and along County road rights-of-way. We also operate and maintain
the <a href="https://www.miamidade.gov/global/service.page?Mduid_service=ser1684342734896148">Rickenbacker
and Venetian Causeways</a>.</p>
<p>We manage the County Stormwater Utility for flood and water quality protection
and maintain the secondary canal system.</p>
<p>Permits for all work within rights-of-way and code enforcement of unpermitted work
is also handled by our <a href="/global/transportation/public-works/home.page">Public
Works</a> division.</p>
