Miami-Dade County is seeking partnership to provide free meals throughout the summer
This summer, Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) will continue to work with organizations throughout Miami-Dade County in providing safe and free nutritious meals to youth 18 years of age and under. CAHSD is currently recruiting sites with summer programs to partner with the County in providing these free meals in our local communities throughout the county.
“We are committed to ensuring that no child goes hungry, especially in the summer when school is out”, said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Through the Summer Food Service Program, we are proud to provide free meals, ensuring the well-being of our community’s youth. Together, we strive to foster a healthy and thriving environment for every child.”
Free meals will be provided during the months of June, July, and August of 2024, at sites located throughout Miami-Dade County. The Department is ensuring that all program operations are performed according to health and safety protocols.
“This program reflects our shared commitment to supporting a caring and nourished environment for all”, commented Director of CAHSD Sonia Grice. “Our joint initiatives and efforts aim to provide free meals throughout the summer, to make sure that no one goes hungry.”
The SFSP is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture with oversight from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The program provides free, nutritionally balanced meals to children during summer recess when school breakfasts and lunches are not available. CAHSD will be serving both hot and cold meals at participating sites via on-site consumption, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. All meals will be prepared using fresh and locally grown foods.
The program will operate this summer from June 10, 2024, through August 16, 2024. Nutritious meals will be provided to youth 18 years and younger regardless of income, race, color, sex, disability, age, or national origin. CAHSD has been providing this service for over 20 years in the community.
For more information on how to participate, contact Dawn Beckford at (786) 469-4686, [email protected] or Susanne DeMatas, [email protected], at (786) 469-4671 or visit our website. A list of all participating sites will be available by calling 211.
