Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announces Climate Week Miami 2024

CC35 will host the inaugural Climate Week Miami in collaboration Miami-Dade County and various partners

MIAMI-DADE ( February 27, 2024 )–

Yesterday, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, together with CC35 and other partners, announced the inaugural Climate Week Miami set to take place from April 22-29, 2024 at diverse locations throughout Miami-Dade. The week-long event will gather hundreds of local, national and international organizations, policymakers, youth, scientists, artists, entrepreneurs, and active community members eager to contribute to building a climate-resilient future.

"We are excited to welcome Climate Week Miami to our county,” said Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “This week will help bring climate innovation to the forefront and further highlight the important role local governments play in accelerating carbon reduction efforts, transitioning toward a green economy, and promoting policies that maximize conservation efforts in the context of a changing climate."

Climate Week Miami will consist of various events throughout the week that will enable multiple stakeholders to gather and exchange ideas on best practices and opportunities to delve into cross-cutting climate issues, such as livable cities, environmental justice, water scarcity, zero-emission mobility, redefining waste, clean energy, circular economy, and climate tech, among others.

The event will also feature a significant initiative centered around fostering innovation and collaboration between cities, investment funds, and climate solutions in the hemisphere. This endeavor will seek to gather 500 impactful climate solutions, connecting them with cities and investment resources until the end of the decade.

“Rewiring of the global economy requires action at the scale of the Industrial Revolution, but at the speed of the Digital Revolution. It is this type of bold action that can deliver. Climate Week Miami can be tilting private markets towards climate investing with incentives and risk mitigation to invest in emerging markets.” said Samir M. Suleymanov, Head of Finance at COP28 and President of Join the Planet Foundation.

The event series will include prominent voices from around the world and bring together public and private stakeholders to participate in this important initiative. Climate Week Miami will showcase Miami-Dade's leadership while leveraging its position as gateway to the Americas by integrating Latin American and the Caribbean leaders into the conversation.

"Miami-Dade County is uniquely positioned to serve as a hub for achieving climate integration in the Americas," stated Sebastian Navarro, Secretary General of CC35. "We are delighted that Mayor Levine Cava’s vision for a future ready community   emphasizing conservation, decarbonization, and resilience demonstrates that together, we can propel Miami toward the UN’s Conference of Parties 29 and beyond. Miami will be the epicenter from which climate finance can extend throughout the entire region, and where leaders unite to shape an emerging future from the ground up," Navarro concluded.

Climate Week Miami will feature a major corporate sponsor, the multinational StoneX, committed to fighting the climate crisis; "We believe that bringing the true value of conservation and climate action back to the financial markets through traceable instruments is crucial in the face of the climate crisis," said Alfredo Nicastro, global vice president of Carbon Markets at StoneX.

The series of events will showcase proven solutions, highlight climate innovation, and demonstrate government leadership with tangible commitments from across the world, all to be showcased in Miami-Dade. Climate Week Miami stands as an urgent call to action, a pivotal moment to drive meaningful change for a more sustainable future.

The event will feature the Miami Herald and France 24 as media partners, and has the support of partnering organizations such as Florida International University (FIU), Global Footprint Network, Global Water Partnership, International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), Pvblic Foundation, Green Tech Alliance, The Energy Coalition, Canada Passive House, and Tennis Race to Zero Foundation, among many other organizations from the State of Florida.
