Miami-Dade County continues “Potholepalooza” street repair pilot program in Commission Districts 3 and 7
Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) continues its successful “Potholepalooza” street repair pilot program in Miami-Dade County Commission Districts 3 and 7, from now until April 14, 2024. The innovative program, which aims to address pothole repairs more expeditiously with the help of residents, was launched last year and has resulted in 803 potholes repaired within six County Districts in just seven months.
“Addressing potholes in this innovative way allows us to enhance the safety and quality of our roads for all residents,” said Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “This initiative underscores our commitment to engage residents and quickly respond to improve our infrastructure. By working together with residents, we can ensure smoother and safer roads for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike.”
Potholes often appear during rainy weather and while minor repairs can be accomplished relatively quickly, major repairs or reconstruction may have to be scheduled. Some potholes may have to be added to resurfacing plans on a future date if simple repairs are not possible.
“I’d like to applaud DTPW on their efforts to eliminate this public nuisance,” said District 3 Commissioner Keon Hardemon. “We must work together with a sense of urgency and purpose to make our streets safe for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.”
“I’m proud to partner with DTPW on this intensive effort to tackle potholes in District 7,” added District 7 Commissioner Raquel A. Regalado. “My team will be actively looking for opportunities to repair and improve our County roads. I urge residents in my district to help us find and fix these issues.”
The Potholepalooza pilot program only works if potholes are reported. Residents are asked to report any potholes or other street issues by calling 311 or 305-468-5900. Residents can also complete this form or download the 311Direct app. Providing as much information as possible ensures DTPW can locate each pothole. Upon receipt of the report, the County will make every effort to make the repair within seven days. This program will continue to other commission districts and is slated to be completed within 16 months.
