Baynanza celebrates its 42-year anniversary this Earth Month, bringing thousands of volunteers together at coastal cleanup
On Saturday, April 13, in honor of Earth Month, Miami-Dade County is celebrating 42 years of the Baynanza Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day, its signature cleanup event taking place at more than 30 locations along Biscayne Bay and inland on Saturday. The event begins at 9 a.m., with Historic Virginia Key Beach Park serving as this year’s VIP location.
Organized by the Miami-Dade County Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources, Division of Environmental Resources Management (DERM), Baynanza gathers thousands of volunteers with the purpose of cleaning marine debris and litter from Biscayne Bay while raising awareness of both the beauty and challenges faced by this vital ecosystem. DERM organizes this yearly event with support from sponsors, non-profit organizations, and other county agencies.
Central to Baynanza’s mission is the crucial task of preventing litter in our waterways, underscored by the understanding that every action, whether on water or land, can impact the health of the bay. Through educational initiatives, Baynanza aims to instill in residents the profound importance of responsible stewardship for our environment. This year’s event includes inland cleanup sites, adjacent to waterways that can ultimately affect Biscayne Bay’s health.
