Miami-Dade County designates April 18 as Nicaraguan Freedom Day
On Thursday, April 18, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava will declare Nicaraguan Freedom Day, marking the 6th anniversary of the April 2018 rebellion in Nicaragua. This proclamation serves as a solemn tribute to the courage, resilience, and aspirations of the Nicaraguan people for freedom, democracy, and human rights.
For Nicaraguan-Americans residing in Miami-Dade County, April 18 holds profound importance as a day of remembrance for those who sacrificed their lives and liberties in the pursuit of a better future for Nicaragua. It serves as a rallying cry for solidarity and support for the ongoing struggle for democracy and human rights in Nicaragua.
“Recognizing this day as Nicaraguan Freedom Day reaffirms Miami-Dade County's commitment to upholding the universal values of freedom, democracy, and human rights,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Miami-Dade stands in solidarity with the Nicaraguan community, acknowledging their contributions to the cultural, economic, and social fabric of our county.”
