Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava to hold press conference on 2024 hurricane season
and extreme weather
Today, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and members of the Board of County
Commissioners will hold a press conference to discuss the start of the 2024 hurricane
season on June 1st. The press conference will also address the importance of staying
vigilant to ensure our community is prepared for extreme heat and potential flooding,
as May 1st marked the official start of heat season and May 15th was the start of
rainy season.
<p><span style="font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;">Today, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella
Levine Cava and members of the Board of County Commissioners will hold a press conference
to discuss the start of the 2024 hurricane season on June 1st. The press conference
will also address the importance of staying vigilant to ensure our community is prepared
for extreme heat and potential flooding, as May 1st marked the official start of heat
season and May 15th was the start of rainy season. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;">Together with Miami-Dade's Department
of Emergency Management, the Office of Resilience and the National Weather Service,
the speakers will provide tips and helpful information for the community and remind
residents about the importance of being prepared for extreme weather and getting their
homes and families prepared early – before a storm threatens Miami-Dade.
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;">Mayor Levine Cava will offer remarks
in English and Spanish. Interpretation to Haitian Creole and American Sign Language
will be provided as well. </span></p>

2020.
<p>Daniella Levine Cava was elected Miami-Dade County’s first-ever woman Mayor
in November 2020. She enters the Mayor's office following a nearly 40-year career
as a relentless advocate for South Florida families in public service and elected
leadership.<br /><br />As Miami-Dade County’s Mayor, she oversees a metropolitan
government with more than 31,000 employees serving nearly 3 million residents, managing
an annual budget of approximately $12 billion.<br /><br />A social worker, lawyer,
and community activist, she was first elected in 2014, and re-elected in August 2018,
to serve as the Miami-Dade County Commissioner representing District 8.</p>
