Department of Transportation leader accepted to prestigious, national Leadership APTA program
The Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works’ (DTPW) General Superintendent for Bus Operations, Schneider St. Preux, has been accepted into the 2025 Leadership APTA (American Public Transportation Association) program. This is the premiere professional development program designed to develop and support the next generation of APTA leaders and the public transportation industry. The Leadership APTA Committee selects only 35 individuals from across the nation among APTA member applicants to participate in the year-long program that includes skill-building workshops, conferences, executive roundtables, class leadership projects, teleconferences, online meetings, and web-based events.
“The entire team at DTPW commends Schneider on this accomplishment which I feel is a positive reflection on the entire department and where we are headed as an organization. He is an exemplar of our drive for safety, excellence and to become the world’s best provider of transportation options,” said Eulois Cleckley, DTPW’s Director and CEO.
“I am extremely honored and humbled to have been selected to this program. It’s certainly a career and personal highlight. However, it’s also new chapter in my work in this critical industry and my hope is to use everything I learn and gain for the benefit of the department and, most importantly, our riders,” said St. Preux.
A proud Haitian American and community leader, St. Preux began his career as a bus operator in 2012, and quickly rose through the ranks into upper management, but always remembering where he started. In his capacity, he oversees all Miami-Dade Transit bus operations and a $195 million budget and nearly 1,900 budgeted positions. He has often been recognized for his hard work and dedication, most recently by both Mass Transit and Legacy Miami Magazine as one of the top 40 under 40 leaders in the industry.
DTPW operates the 15th largest public transit system in the country and the largest transit agency in Florida. It provides approximately 27.5 million miles of Metrobus annual revenue service along 70 routes. It has one of the largest emissions-free bus fleets in the nation. DTPW's transit system also includes a 25-mile dual elevated Metrorail track, a 20-mile South Dade TransitWay that is among the longest in the United States and which will open for revenue service in 2025 with an emissions-free, state-of-the-art bus rapid transit (BRT) mode, and a free 4.4-mile dual elevated Metromover track in the Downtown Miami area.
