No Swim Advisory issued for Maule Lake, surrounding areas
Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) crews repaired a 4-inch wastewater pipe that was struck and broken by a private contractor near 4500 E. Island Blvd. The pipe break resulted in an unpermitted discharge of wastewater to Maule Lake.
As a result, a No-Swim Advisory has been issued and it is advised that the public avoids contact with the water in the following areas: Northeast 183rd Street to the north, the Oleta River to the south, Biscayne Boulevard to the west and the Intracoastal Waterway to the east. The Oleta State Park and Greynolds Park are also within the affected area.
The No-Swim Advisory also informs people to avoid other water recreational activities within the boundaries such as fishing and boating.
The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County and the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources will test the posted waters and the advisory remains in effect until two consecutive days of clear testing occur after repairs are completed. We will continue to communicate with the public until the advisory has been lifted.
It is the priority of the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department to provide safe, reliable service to its customers. For additional information about Department services and programs, visit the WASD website.
