The Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department (Animal Services), is issuing a consumer alert warning to dog owners about a citation collections scam, where scammers are calling individuals claiming to be Animal Services, regarding outstanding citations that must be paid immediately.  They advise consumers that payments may be made over the phone to convince them to provide their credit card information to pay nonexistent past due citations.  These claims are a fraudulent attempt to collect your personal information and credit card details. The caller ID shows up as Animal Services calling from (305) 884-1101, however, these calls are NOT from Animal Services. Although Animal Services does issue civil citations to pet owners for failure to comply with County ordinances or laws; Animal Services DOES NOT make collection calls to individual debtors for citation payments nor does Animal Services accept payments over the phone.  All credit card payments made to Animal Services must be made in person.  Residents can search to confirm a citation online or by calling 786-469-2900. Residents with any additional questions or concerns about a citation notice can email [email protected]. Lifesaving Mission In 2015, Miami-Dade County Animal Services first achieved its lifesaving goal of saving greater than 90 percent of animals entering the shelter. This is a testament to the incredible hard work of the shelter team every day and the addition of new lifesaving programs to include partnerships with rescue organizations, improved pet welfare, foster programs, offsite adoption events, surrender prevention and more. Animal Statistics The Miami-Dade Animal Services Department encourages the public to view our annual animal statistics information, which shows shelter population based on the <a href="https://www.shelteranimalscount.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Asilomar Accords</a> and other methods for calculating the number of animal lives that are saved. In August 2004, a group of animal welfare industry leaders from around the nation convened at Asilomar in Pacific Grove, California to build bridges across varying philosophies, develop relationships and establish goals focused on reducing the euthanasia of healthy and treatable companion animals in the United States. The Asilomar Accords established record-keeping and reporting standards for data associated with shelter animals.
