Main Supplier for Fentanyl Trafficking Organization Arrested
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO), Organized Crimes Bureau, Narcotics Section arrested several individuals, including the main supplier of a Fentanyl trafficking organization operating within Miami-Dade County.
According to detectives, members of the MDSO Narcotics Section, along with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD) Narcotics Unit, collaborated in a 7-month investigation in which they were able to conduct numerous Fentanyl controlled buys. These Narcotics operations helped identify the drug traffickers involved, including the main supplier, Anthony Medina. On January 30th, MDSO Narcotics detectives attempted to conduct a traffic stop to affect the arrest of Medina. He then fled at a high rate of speed and a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, Medina intentionally struck a K-9 SUV, which caused it to crash into a concrete wall in the area of NW 72 Street and NW 1 Avenue. City of Miami Fire Rescue responded, treated and released the deputy. K-9 Roxy, which was inside the vehicle, was transported to an emergency veterinarian hospital and is now stable. Due to her injuries, she will be seeing a specialist today.
During the incident, another MDSO vehicle was involved in a traffic crash with a civilian at NE 2 Avenue and NE 17 Street. The City of Miami Fire Rescue responded, treated the deputy on scene, and transported an adult male civilian to an area hospital in stable condition. In addition, they transported an adult male pedestrian that sustained minor injuries, as he avoided getting struck by the vehicles.
The pursuit ended westbound on SR836 and NW 12 Avenue. Despite a brief struggle, Medina, along with Julio Flores and Krystal E. Flores, were taken into custody and charged accordingly. Anthony Medina and Julio Flores are convicted felons.
The search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of:
12 grams of suspect Phylocybin Mushrooms
252 Bags of suspect Marijuana totaling 1,411 grams
90 boxes of Marijuana totaling 315 grams
20 boxes of suspect THC cartridges +/- 400 grams
14 packs of Marijuana edibles totaling 678 grams
U.S. currency totaling $8,525
1 Firearm
