Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department receives financial reporting excellence award for 41st consecutive year
For the 41st consecutive year, the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year that concluded on September 30, 2023.
"I’m very proud of the excellent services provided by our Water and Sewer Department team, who carefully manage our ratepayers' investments," said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. " For four decades, they’ve shown transparency and accountability while delivering essential services. Their ongoing dedication builds trust, supports sustainability, and helps ensure a strong future for our residents."
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment.
"I am proud to be leading a department that has been able to meet the transparency and high standards set by the GFOA for that last 41 years,” said WASD Interim Director Amanda Kinnick. “This recognition represents our commitment to not only providing reliable water and sewer services to our more than 2.8 million customers but to also be responsible financial stewards of our rate payers' monies. I would like to commend the Department’s Controller Division for their tireless efforts in preparing this report each year."
The annual financial report was rigorously judged by an impartial panel whose criteria included demonstrating a constructive "spirit of disclosure" to clearly communicate financial stories. The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association comprising approximately 17,500 government finance professionals.
It is the priority of the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department to provide safe, reliable service to its customers. For additional information about Department services and programs, visit the department's website.
