MIA conducts its triennial full-scale emergency drill
(MIAMI, February 27, 2025) – On February 26, Miami International Airport conducted its full-scale triennial emergency preparedness exercise, in partnership with the Miami-Dade Fire-Rescue Department and the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. The exercise fulfills a Federal Aviation Administration requirement for airports to conduct a simulated airfield emergency scenario every three years, to test and evaluate the airport’s emergency plan and its ability to respond to a major incident.
“I am so proud of the strong partnership and teamwork we saw on full display between MIA, Miami-Dade Fire-Rescue, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, and our local and federal partners at this year’s drill,” said Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “The triennial drill is just one example of how MIA’s safety and security workforce trains and prepares constantly to keep our visitors and employees safe around the clock. In addition to fulfilling an FAA requirement, we will now be even more ready in the event of a real-life emergency.”
In addition to participation by multiple local and federal safety and security agencies, more than 100 student volunteers from Miami Springs Senior High School acted as passengers evacuating an aircraft because of a security incident onboard.
