Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava hosts peak mosquito season preparedness press conference on May 7
South Florida’s rainy season will soon arrive, which means elevated mosquito activity is sure to follow. To better prepare residents, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava will deliver remarks about the County’s ongoing mosquito control efforts, offer residents advice on what to do to prevent breeding, and speak to how to protect themselves from bites.
Joining the mayor is Miami-Dade Solid Waste Management Department Director Aneisha Daniel, PhD, and Mosquito Control and Habitat Management Division Director Dr. John Paul Mutebi. The County program works hand in glove with the Florida Department of Health, University of Miami’s Public Health Science Department, the Biomolecular Science Institute’s Vector Control Center at Florida International University, and the University of Florida’s Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory on disease prevention and research efforts.
The Mosquito Control Division conducts abatement activities year-round, including responding to resident requests for mosquito inspections, trapping and monitoring mosquito populations through an array of more than 320 countywide mosquito surveillance traps, and responding to suspected and verified disease reports.
