Miami-Dade County celebrates groundbreaking for Grand Hyatt Miami Beach Convention Center
New 800-room flagship property to boost tourism, economic growth in South Florida
Today, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, alongside Miami-Dade County Commissioners Eileen Higgins and Micky Steinberg, joined City of Miami Beach and the Hyatt Hotels Corporation to celebrate the groundbreaking of the highly anticipated Grand Hyatt Miami Beach Convention Center Hotel, a transformative project that will reshape the tourism and convention landscape of Miami Beach. Miami-Dade County contributed $75 million to help secure the funding required to launch construction.
“Groundbreakings like this one inspire me because we are shaping the future today,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “With over 28.2 million visitors last year and a tourism industry that generated more than $31.1 billion in economic impact, this hotel is an investment in the future of Miami-Dade. It will create jobs, support local businesses, and strengthen our reputation as a world class destination for global events.”
The Grand Hyatt marks a milestone in the County’s efforts to enhance tourism infrastructure, attract large-scale events, and stimulate year-round economic development. The 17-story hotel is slated to open in late 2027, boasting 800 rooms, including 52 suites and direct access to the Miami Beach Convention Center. Once completed, the Grand Hyatt will serve as a full-service headquarters hotel for the Convention Center, helping attract larger conventions and international events that have previously bypassed Miami Beach due to a lack of connected lodging.
“I am proud to have helped secure the funds to make this hotel possible,” said County Commissioner Eileen Higgins. “Hotels like the Grand Hyatt represent more than just building a place to stay in—it is about building opportunity. This project is about growing our economy, providing career pathways for our residents, and elevating the experience for every guest who walks through these doors.”
The project is being developed in partnership with Turnberry, Terra Group, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, and the City of Miami Beach, with strong support from the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau.
“Today was a full circle moment for me,” said County Commissioner Micky Steinberg. “I was on the Miami Beach Commission when our residents voted in favor of this hotel, and now I get to continue supporting it as a County Commissioner. This hotel will undoubtedly transform the city and unlock the full potential of our Convention Center.”
The new hotel complements ongoing infrastructure upgrades throughout Miami-Dade County, including a $9 billion modernization of Miami International Airport and the recent opening of the largest cruise terminal in the country at PortMiami.
