Homicide Cold Case Leads Investigators to Peru
Detectives Obtain Justice Nearly 30 Years Later
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO), Homicide Bureau, Cold Case Squad with the assistance of the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office (SAO), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Department of Justice, and the Peruvian National Police have arrested an individual responsible for a fatal shooting that took place almost 30 years ago.
According to investigators, on November 28, 1996, at approximately 11:30 P.M., officers from the then Metro-Dade Police Department (MDPD) responded to a shooting at a gas station located at 3201 NW 79 Street. Upon arrival, they learned the victim was earlier involved in a verbal altercation with the subject. A short time later, the subject approached the victim and without provocation produced a firearm, shot him several times, and fled the area. Friends of the victim drove him to Hialeah Hospital, where he was airlifted by then Metro-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) to JMH Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition. Despite medical staff's efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries. Detectives discovered the identity of the subject and that he possibly had fled the county. The incident was reported under MDPD case #611323-S and an arrest warrant was issued for Christian Miguel Orosco, but he was never located nor arrested.
Nearly 30 years later, the Peruvian National Police received a tip that an individual named Eduardo Enrique Albarracin Trillo was really named Christian Miguel Orosco. The Peruvian National Police, through their investigation, learned Christian Miguel Orosco was wanted by MDSO investigators, and they contacted the MDSO Homicide Bureau's Cold Case Squad detectives. Through positive fingerprint identification, it was confirmed both identities were the same individual. Additionally, they learned that Christian Miguel Orosco, after committing the fatal shooting in then Dade County, fled to Peru, assumed the identity "Eduardo Enrique Albarracin Trillo," and was working as an air traffic controller for the Peruvian government at Jorge Chavez International Airport. The Peruvian National Police took him into custody without incident.
Investigators are currently in Peru, speaking with witnesses and working with our federal partners previously mentioned and Peruvian authorities to have Christian Miguel Orosco extradited to Miami-Dade County to face charges of Murder in the 2nd Degree.
Note: There is no arrest affidavit nor booking photo available at this time.
