The Miami-Dade County International Trade Consortium joined the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce (GMCC) in welcoming The Honorable José Luis Martínez-Almeida Navasqüés, Mayor of Madrid, Spain, on his noteworthy visit to Miami-Dade County. This occasion provided an opportunity for business leaders and local officials to engage with the Mayor and explore potential avenues for collaboration between the two regions. In his remarks, Mayor Martínez-Almeida emphasized the strong ties between Miami-Dade County and Madrid, highlighting the shared values and similarities that unite the two cities. Specifically, he pointed to their mutual commitment to fostering a welcoming business environment, supporting innovation, and providing excellent hospitality. Miami-Dade County is structured into 13 districts. The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners is the governing body of unincorporated Miami-Dade County, and has broad, regional powers to establish policies for services that transcend city boundaries. The government provides major metropolitan services countywide and city-type services for residents of the unincorporated areas. The Commissioners set policies and establish laws for the community. Commissioners are chosen in non-partisan, single-district elections. Miami-Dade County is structured into 13 districts. Residents choose only from among candidates running in the district in which they live. Commissioners serve four-year staggered terms, with elections scheduled every two years. The ITC office works closely with Miami-International Airport (MIA) and PortMiami, as well as other partners including foreign diplomatic and trade offices, bi-national chambers of commerce, economic development organizations and local, state and federal government agencies. The office, the consortium and its 14 member organizations and 16 appointees work together to advise County elected officials on international trade issues and help advance the County’s trade efforts worldwide. As primary liaison to the diplomatic community, the International Trade Consortium office plans the County's official outbound trade and business development missions; supports inbound trade and visiting delegations and manages the Sister Cities program of Miami-Dade County.
