That’s why Miami-Dade County Animal Services (Animal Services) will bring adoptable pets to two PetSmart locations (PetSmart Flagler 8241 W. Flagler St Miami, FL 33144 and PetSmart W. Kendall 16514 SW 88th St Miami, FL 33196) from 11 AM – 3 PM for PetSmart Charities® National Adoption Week, taking place July 21 to 27. <p>Pets are family, and can bring hope, companionship and unconditional love to their people. Adopting a pet in need of a home can also impact communities, alleviating strain on overcrowded shelters. That&rsquo;s why Miami-Dade County Animal Services (Animal Services) will bring adoptable pets to two PetSmart locations (PetSmart Flagler 8241 W. Flagler St Miami, FL 33144 and PetSmart W. Kendall 16514 SW 88th St Miami, FL 33196) from 11 AM &ndash; 3 PM for PetSmart Charities&reg; National Adoption Week, taking place July 21 to 27. &nbsp;Animal Services aims to find homes for as many pets as possible during the event.&nbsp;</p> <p>To help alleviate costs associated with preparing pets for adoption, Animal Services received a grant recently from PetSmart Charities for $45,000. Since receiving the funds, approximately 140 pets &nbsp;have found loving homes. More than 11 million pets have been adopted through in-store events with support from PetSmart Charities.</p> <p>PetSmart Charities connects adoption partners such as Animal Services with local PetSmart stores to bring adoptable pets in for meet-and-greets. These include pets of all ages, breeds, temperaments, and energy levels. Staff and volunteers are available to help make ideal matches, considering lifestyle and other preferences such as energy levels, personalities, sizes, etc.</p> <p>&ldquo;PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week provides an incredible opportunity for us to connect with the community and help more pets find forever homes,&rdquo; said Annette Jose Director of Miami-Dade County Animal Services. &ldquo;Our shelter serves one of the highest intakes serving a large population. With this grant, we have ensured that each pet gets the care and recognition they need to find their perfect family, while increasing adoptions and strengthening our community.&rdquo;&nbsp;</p> <p>&ldquo;Our local shelter and rescue partners are overflowing with animals looking for people to love. This is a testament to the incredible hard work of the shelter team every day and the addition of new lifesaving programs to include partnerships with rescue organizations, improved pet welfare, foster programs, offsite adoption events, surrender prevention and more.</p> <p><strong>Animal Statistics</strong></p> <p>The Miami-Dade Animal Services Department encourages the public to view our annual animal statistics information, which shows shelter population based on the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.shelteranimalscount.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Asilomar Accords</a> and other methods for calculating the number of animal lives that are saved.</p> <p>In August 2004, a group of animal welfare industry leaders from around the nation convened at Asilomar in Pacific Grove, California to build bridges across varying philosophies, develop relationships and establish goals focused on reducing the euthanasia of healthy and treatable companion animals in the United States. The Asilomar Accords established record-keeping and reporting standards for data associated with shelter animals.
