Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins Delivers on $3.2M Roadway Resurfacing in District 8
Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins is proud to announce progress on eight major roadway resurfacing projects throughout District 8—some already completed and others currently under construction. These projects, spearheaded by the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW), represent a total investment of $3.2 million, secured by Commissioner Cohen Higgins during the previous County budget cycle.
“These roadways have been overlooked for too long in our community, especially in areas like Redland, where they play a key role in moving the food that feeds our region,” said Commissioner Cohen Higgins. “I fought hard to ensure our residents see real, tangible improvements—not just for their daily commutes, but for our farmers and agricultural businesses that rely on these roads. Investing in safer and smoother roads means supporting our economy, improving accessibility, and making sure South Dade remains a beautiful area to live, work, and play.”
Project Status Overview:
Completed:
SW 248 St from SW 198 Ave to SW 202 Ave
SW 296 St from SW 209 Ave to SW 217 Ave
SW 202 Ave from SW 296 St to SW 304 St
SW 162 Ave from SW 200 St to SW 216 St
Substantially completed, pending thermoplastic striping after curing period of asphalt:
SW 216 St from SW 187 Ave to SW 192 Ave
SW 232 St from SW 187 Ave to SW 207 Ave
SW 217 Ave from SW 236 St to SW 248 St
SW 217 Ave from SW 280 St to SW 296 St
Each project includes milling and resurfacing, ADA ramp upgrades, valve box and manhole adjustments, as well as new pavement markings and signage. These improvements will enhance driving conditions, increase pedestrian accessibility, and promote safety across District 8.
Commissioner Cohen Higgins remains committed to delivering critical infrastructure upgrades and ensuring that South Dade residents benefit from meaningful, visible improvements in their communities.
