Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis: Statement on First Budget Hearing for FY 2025-26
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis reaffirmed her commitment to putting residents first during the recent budget process, advocating for policies that prioritize public safety, protect taxpayers, and invest in the quality of life for our families.
“Budgets are a reflection of our values, and throughout this process my focus has been clear—putting our residents first. That’s why I supported restoring fire services to ensure resources remain where they are most needed and to improve response times in our community. I stood firmly against every proposed fee increase, including STS and transit fees, water and sewer charges, and solid waste fees, because our taxpayers should not be asked to shoulder more. I fought to restore funding for our county parks and to eliminate unfair parking fees at places like A.D. Barnes Park, and I defended the Ludlam Trail Trust Fund to safeguard this vital project for District 6 and all of Miami-Dade. I also voted against raising taxes, making sure hardworking families are not further burdened during challenging times, while at the same time supporting an increase to the Sheriff’s Office budget so that more officers can be hired and safety strengthened across the county. Every decision I made was guided by one principle: standing with our families and neighborhoods, protecting what matters most, and investing in the quality of life our residents deserve.”
