Samantha Choon [email protected] 305-471-1900 One Critically Injured in a Fiery Collision On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at approximately 2:48 a.m., a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy observed a suspicious vehicle stopped in the roadway at SW 92 Avenue and SW 16 Street. The deputy attempted to make contact with the vehicle’s driver, later identified as Kevin Alvarez, when he struck the deputy’s vehicle and fled at a high rate of speed. On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at approximately 2:48 a.m., a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy observed a suspicious vehicle stopped in the roadway at SW 67 Avenue and SW 16 Street.  The deputy attempted to make contact with the vehicle’s driver, later identified as Kevin Alvarez, when he struck the deputy’s vehicle and fled at a high rate of speed.  A pursuit ensued, at which time a MDSO supervisor ordered the deputy to end the pursuit.  While disengaging, Mr. Alvarez sideswiped the MDSO vehicle and again fled at a high rate of speed.  Shortly after, Mr. Alvarez lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tree at the intersection of SW 87 Avenue and SW 50 Street.  The vehicle became engulfed in flames, but arriving deputies were able to rescue Mr. Alvarez from the wreckage. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded, extinguished the flames, and transported Mr. Alvarez to a local hospital in critical condition.  No MDSO deputies were injured in the incident.
