Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins Celebrates Local Heroes at 4th Annual Hometown Heroes Parade and Festival
Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins is proud to announce the 4th Annual Hometown Heroes Parade and Festival, taking place on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tropical Park (7900 SW 40th Street, Miami, FL 33155). This signature community event honors the courageous men and women who serve and protect Miami-Dade County, celebrating their bravery, sacrifice, and dedication.
"This event returns to continue our tradition of honoring the extraordinary individuals who keep our community safe, strong, and united,” said Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins. “The Hometown Heroes Parade and Festival is more than just a celebration—it is a reminder of the sacrifices made by our first responders, our law enforcement, our firefighters, and everyday residents who step up in times of crisis. Together, we gather to thank them, to reflect, and to celebrate their service with the respect and recognition they deserve.”
This year’s Grand Marshal is Lazaro Mendez, better known as DJ Laz — the iconic South Florida radio personality, DJ, and entertainer. For over 30 years, DJ Laz has been a beloved community figure, using his platform to inspire and uplift families across Miami.
The “Echy” Hero’s Award—named in honor of Detective Cesar “Echy” Echaverry of the Miami-Dade Police Department, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty in 2022—will be presented to one outstanding local hero whose actions embody courage and service.
The Hometown Heroes Parade will feature a procession of police officers, firefighters, military personnel, and other public service heroes, followed by a family-friendly festival filled with food trucks, children’s activities, and live entertainment. Guests can also look forward to musical performances by local artists and the evening will close with a spectacular fireworks display.
